"Sam's Dream"
18 year-old Sam's younger brother and sister had passed away, and his dream was that he wished to have them back with him.
ConceptThis art piece is designed using multiples of the number three, to represent Sam and his siblings.
InspirationThe main inspiration for the upper portion of the art piece is the symbol of eternal friendship, which is represented by the intertwining of three curves. The base symbolizes a Chinese children's game of interlocking legs and feet, and how in this connection they support one another.
|
ExecutionThe frame is constructed from several layers of bending plywood, stained in three finishes and varnished. The base is made from three interlocking legs, which represent strength and stability. Three curving elements rise up as a symbol of the spirit of Sam and his brother and sister. They intertwine in an expression of their connection to each other. The elements do not quite connect, which represents their bond, yet recognizes that they are apart.
